Steam Meet

Once a year, members from the 11 clubs around the country get together at a pre-selected club for the annual steam meet. This is normally held over a long weekend and can have as many as 30 locomotives attending.


2017 National Steam Meet

 Western Province Live Steamers are proud to be Hosts of the National Annual Steam Meet, and invite all interested parties to attend. The event is scheduled to take place from Friday 24 to Sunday 26 March 2017.

Registration                 Participants are requested to register prior to the meeting using the registration form and giving information as required so that we can make the necessary arrangements. A registration pack will be prepared which will be handed to you on arrival. Late registration can be made on arrival at the track.


Accommodation            Facilities exist for caravans and for camping on site. We can arrange hire of caravans if you require, but subject to availability.

                                    Reasonably priced Bed & Breakfast facilities are available locally as are Hotels. We can assist you if required.


Catering                       The sale of hot meals will be available during the day.

                                    Fast food and cool drinks will also be on sale.

Tea and coffee will be available to registered participants throughout the Steam Meet at no cost.

Braai                            There will be a braai on Saturday night. WPLS will prepare the fires and supply salads and bread rolls. Participants to supply their own meat and drinks. However, WPLS will organize braai meat packs for those requiring them.

Requirements                Visiting locomotives to have a valid boiler test certificate. If this is not produced, the owner / driver will be asked to sign an indemnity document.

 Entrants are asked to provide their own driving trolley. WPLS has a limited supply of these for use.

 Participants must abide by the safe driving practices and obey any Safety Officer instructions.

Coal, anthracite and paraffin will be provided by WPLS. Lubricating oils, rags and other consumables to be supplied by the participant.

 Participants wishing to run at night are asked to have head and tail lights for their trains.

 Chairman’s Meeting

                                    The chairman’s meeting is scheduled for Sunday morning at 10h00. Chairmen not able to attend may be represented by a proxy subject to authorization from the chairman being represented. Please let us have any matters you intend to raise at the meeting by 10th March so that an agenda can be drawn up. There will be an opportunity to add to the agenda before the meeting commences.


Road Directions to our Club and Track.

                                    From the N1 National Road, take exit 18 to Parow which takes you along McIntyre Road. Continue to the roundabout. Take the right turn at the roundabout which takes you into Frans Conradie Drive (Heading towards Table Mountain). Continue over the railway bridge until you reach the traffic lights at the first intersection. Turn right here and pass Ajax Football Club on your left. Our club grounds are situated to the rear of the Football Club.

A registration Levy will be payable by all persons participating which includes drivers, their family and friends.  Also other interested parties.  Children under 16 will not be obliged to pay the levy, but please register them so as to assist us in providing good service.
